Today at 12:00PM EST is officially the day everyone has been waiting for. 2018 Contract Hockey FA begins. The following is a reminder of some of the rules along with new ones put in place this offseason.
5.1.1.1 A free agent can only be signed by winning an auction for the player. After the auction ends you will have 24 hours to assign a contract to that player of either 1,2,3 or 4 years. If you fail to post a contract on the forum before the 24 hour period ends then a one year contract will be assigned to that player.
7.2.3 Free agents are defined as players who do not have a current contract with any fantasy team and are no longer minor league eligible i.e. have played a minimum of 82 games in the NHL.
7.2.4 The only exception to rule 7.2.3 is where a minor league prospect has been selected in the minors draft, been called up to their NHL team and been bought out by their fantasy team prior to reaching game #82. This player would be eligible for free agency.
7.2.4.1.2 During the offseason, when a manager holds the highest bid for 24 hours, the auction is over.(I want to emphatically stress that managers are entitled to make bids at any point before the 24 hours expires. If a manager chooses to bid at 23:55, that is his prerogative and is completely within the rules. There will be no backlash towards said manager. Some people may bid late for strategic reasons, others because it is the only time they can place a bid, others because they just want to mess with a manager. All three are perfectly acceptable reasons and are permitted. Please make sure to always maintain a friendly and respectful atmosphere within the league)
7.2.4.2 The minimum bid is $1 with bids increasing in increments of $0.25
. You may increase the bid by increments of greater than $0.25 but keep in mind how much cap you have.
7.2.4.3 When the auction is over, the auction winner must declare the player’s contract length. If no declaration is made within twenty-four (24) hours, the contract will be assigned a one (1) year term. A GM cannot add a player to their active roster until contract details have been assigned.
7.2.4.3.1 Managers are unable to sign players prior to the 24 hours
expiring. Repeated attempts to do so will result in the
following penalties. ·
1st offense: warning ,
2nd offense: auction is extended for 24 hours from when post of the illegal signing is made
3rd offense: manager forfeits right to win auction on player
4th offense: Manager is replaced from the league
7.2.4.4 A bid is official as soon as it is posted. Any deletion or modification of bids is grounds for suspension of bidding rights or expulsion from the league.
7.2.4.5 If an ineligible bid is made, the previous bidder will have the option of keeping their bid or re-starting the auction.
