By now most of you already know but I wanted to formally welcome Ogie Oglethorpe and Desert Dogs into the Contract Baseball league. Ogie will be taking over for Giants of Jazz, while Desert Dogs will be taking over for Quahogs. Quahogs suddenly became inactive which is why his team needed replacing, while Jazz requested we find someone new since he could no longer make the commitment. After speaking with these two new managers, I feel they will be a great addition to the league. Many of you are already familiar with Ogie from the Contract Hockey leagues, and know him to be an extremely active and competitive manager. Desert Dogs is a relatively new addition to FSC but he impressed me with a strong fantasy resume with good baseball knowledge in addition to his commitment to being an extremely active member of the league.
I also wanted to announce that beginning this offseason, each new manager will be given the opportunity to make one buyout, at no cap charge (essentially a free buyout). In the past, managers have been hamstrung by inherited contracts that are unmovable, thus preventing them from fully transforming the team in their vision and being limited in the flexibility of what they can do. This has been discussed with the board and we are all in agreement with this rule and it will be reflected in upcoming revisions of the rulebook. Managers will have 2 weeks from the time they take over the team to use this buyout and must use the buyout on a contract they inherit from the previous manager.
Welcome Ogie and Desert Dogs, and good luck with this offseason. This is a great opportunity to begin to put your mark on these teams. I am eager to see how you guys move forward.
