I think it would be great to have a one round Prospect Draft during the All-Star break each season. Here is what I envision:
The draft order would be set at our standings the morning of July 5th.
The Player Pool would be limited to players with no MLB experience. Players being drafted at that same time (the MLB draft starts Sunday of the All-Star break) would NOT be eligible.
These picks would not be tradeable, although of course the Prospects selected could then be traded.
The draft would start Monday of the All-Star break at noon, and would likely be done by the end of the All-Star game, as I can see many of us picking during the Home Run Derby or All-Star game.
Otherwise, our standard Minor League draft rules would apply, such as the 6 hour window.
I think this would add some mid-season interest and fill some of our down time during the break. It would also allow a bit of updating of our Prospects from 6 months earlier when we last had a chance to draft. But with the above rules, I don't think it would deplete much of the following year's regular draft, due to all of the newly drafted players being available. And it also would not allow for us to grab players who have been called up but not yet reached the Free Agent limits due to the rule about "No MLB experience".
As always, thankful for your comments and suggestions as to how to improve the idea.
