Proposal: In the 2024 season, add a superflex spot to the starting roster of the contract league. Superflex is a flex spot where a Quarterback could be used (play two quarterbacks each week ideally) QB/WR/RB/TE.
Rational: QB's are the most important player arguably in any professional sport, but fantasy football does not reflect that at all. Each contract team has 1-2 quarterbacks and most teams only play their backup qb during the starters bye week. Making a superflex spot makes all quarterbacks more valuable like they are in real football.
Plan: 1) Give the league two years notice to adjust to the change in roster composition.
2) Leave the salary cap as is at $160 -- we already have too much cap floating around as it is ....so that extra cap will likely get eaten up by qb auctions.
3) Make qb rookie salaries different from the other positions. I don't know exactly what it should be, but I think they should be higher. So if you take a 1st round qb in the minor draft his rookie contract might be $6 instead of the $3 that it currently is.
4) Add one roster spot making the total roster size 25 instead of 24.
Looking forward to hearing what people have to say!

I like the idea especially with such an overage in salary cap. We have players that have $40 contracts that didn’t make their NFL roster.

I hear the argument that having legitimate NFL starting QBs on the bench is not great, but I have several qualms about adding a superflex being the answer.
1. If you think goalies have been hard to come by in Contract Hockey, just think how it will be for QBs here. 90% of the league's starting QBs are drafted as freshman or sophmores, with the remainder drafted just before the NFL drafts them as Juniors. So we could easily have a GM with some bad luck having 0 QBs, let alone two playable ones. As it stands now, you can usually trade for that 3rd or 4th QB on another GM's roster. If he can play two, and needs to cover himself for Byes and injuries, he will keep at least 4.
2. There are all of the bye weeks, and while I know that it is a Flex position, so I can play my 5th WR there, your point is that we should not have the high point scoring QBs on the bench, not having GMs playing the 100th best WR.
3. Injury issues. While GMs could sign all of the league's back-ups, and probably would sign at least half of them, injuries would leave many or most GMs playing guys other than QBs in those spots.
4. I don't like it when Fantasy strays too far from the real game. Most teams use multiple RBs, and all use at least 3 WRs and a TE or two. But no team uses 2 QBs unless there is an injury.

I do see the parallel with goalies in contract hockey, but in that league you can't play a Winger or Dman in the goalie spot...whereas in superflex you can play any position basically. If I proposed a 2QB league then yeah I think you'd be 100% right with that. I also think the increase in QB value would shift the RB value to be something palpable versus how it is now.
Qb value would increase for sure.
Last year 62 Qb's started games. 60 different starters in 2020.
I agree no team plays two qbs and that strays from real life...but also no team would value Rb40 over QB15 for example in real life.

I wouldn't want to see our existing Contract League changed to superflex. Rather create a new league using the superflex option.
Something I would support is elimination the kicker (a useless position in fantasy football).

Yeah maybe a new league would be the way to go. But perhaps not feasible for DE and other processors etc.

Superflex only works is 12 team leagues or less.

I like the idea Bowe, however, that would be very hard in a 16 team league. I would support another contract league opening up with that as a rule but only allow a max of 12 teams. We would need someone else to shoulder the bulk of the work for that league, as sticking myself (as commish) or DE (rolling rosters over) with extra responsibilities would not be ideal. If someone was to commish the league and be responsible for rolling the sheets, than it could possibly work.
The other problem I see with it is when managers have their QBs on byes, they would have to use a RB or WR in the superflex spot (very rarely will a manger be able to afford 3 starting QBs). When that happens, if they are playing a manager who is still able to play two QBs that week, that team without a second QB is at a severe disadvantage. Let's say that manager has to play his WR4 (a couple of examples of them this season would be Kenny Golladay, Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Tyler Boyd) and is up against a manager with neither starting QB on bye, so can play them both. Even if that manager has a QB1 like Josh Allen, Pat Mahomes, or Kyler Murray, and a QB2 like Stafford, Cousins or Trey Lance, that two QB team is going to have a major advantage.
I think this league is just too deep in the player pool to support that. Like I said, I think it is a great idea, but I'm not sure it would work out well in this league.

Yeah true— 16 is probably too big.

At 12 teams most of my concerns go away.

As I said before it only really works in 12 teams or less but I’m still for it as superflex is so much better and it won’t be long before it’s the standard way to play.

I agree that in the near future it will likely become more standard because it makes qbs more valuable.
