This is based on all closed Auctions as of Tuesday morning 3/29 - 11 days into Free Agency.
Here is a breakdown of what we did and how it stacks up to the last couple of seasons.
We auctioned off 73 players for $482.75 with a total of $896.00 - incorporating the full 2-3-4 years of Contracts. This compares to $412.25 of 2021 Cap ($970.50 total) spent on 73 players, $333.75 in 2020 Cap ($828.50 total) spent on 71 players, $648 of 2019 Cap spent on 70 players ($1,523.25 total) and $616.25 in 2018 ($1,205 total)
We had 22 players go for the initial $1.00 bid. We had 29 players go for between $1.25 - $6.50 We had 10 players go for between $7.00 - $9.75
We had only 5 players between $10 - $19.75, and 3 of them were $10.00, last year 12 in this range
This year we had 7 players over $20. Darvish led the list at $38, with Machado at $31, Trout at $30, Freeman at $25, Kershaw at $22, Turner at $21, and Sale at $20.
In 2021 we had 2 players over $20, Harper at $40, and Dom. Smith at $22, 2020 only Kershaw at $33, and in 2019 9 with 5 $20-29.75, 2 $30-39.75, 1 $40-49.75, and Trout at $60.
Catchers were cheap, with 5 sold for $5.00, all on 1 year deals. Third Basemen were expensive, averaging $18.00, but only 4 were signed. 6 Starting Pitchers were signed at $9.50 or higher. No Relief Pitchers were signed above $10. More than a third of our total spending was on Starting Pitchers ($166.50 for 2022, $309.75 total).
